AMPYR delivers $40,000 through the Wimpole Battery Community Fund

Bunyip, Australia, 16 March 2026 — AMPYR is investing $40,000 directly into Bunyip and the surrounding community’s future, supporting nine local community organisations through its Wimpole Battery Community Fund. This is the first investment of the Fund.
The funding backs grassroots projects spanning environmental education, cultural heritage, youth sport and vital community infrastructure, ensuring the benefits of the Wimpole Battery are felt well beyond construction.
Among the recipients, the Cannibal Creek Catchment Landcare Group received $5,000 to supporting a tree-planting campaign, including community and corporate planting days.
“AMPYR’s funding will help us with our planting of shrubs, grasses and trees by supplying the mulch and workforce to place mulch around 6,000 plants to help with their survival,” Pam Cunningham, Secretary said.
“The planting of 6,000 plants in autumn 2026 at Lovers Land will continue to strengthen the landscape for generations to come. Revegetating this site is a critical step in creating a strong biodiversity corridor through the catchment. By reconnecting habitats, we’re supporting native wildlife and improving the overall resilience of the landscape.
“Promoting sustainable land management practices is at the heart of what we do. Projects like this empower landholders, community members and our corporate citizens to be active stewards of our environment.”
AMPYR Project Director Mark Thompson said the strong interest in the fund reflected the spirit and resilience of the Gippsland community.
“We were pleased by both the number and quality of applications received, and are pleased to be able to support projects that will create meaningful, long-term outcomes,” Mr Thompson said.
“Whether it’s protecting the environment, celebrating local culture or supporting grassroots sporting groups, this funding allows us to invest in the communities located closest to our projects.
“The Wimpole Battery represents more than an upgrade to Victoria’s energy network. It demonstrates our commitment to being an enduring community partner – supporting initiatives that unite people, build local capability, foster community pride and respond to priorities identified by the region, all while delivering essential energy infrastructure.”
