Decarbonising operations through rooftop solar
How a fully funded solar solution is powering Bannatyne Health Clubs across the UK.
Bannatyne Health Clubs, the UK’s largest independent chain of health clubs, sought an energy solution to enable multi-site decarbonisation, reduce operational costs and protect core capital investment.
AMPYR Distributed Energy UK now owns and operates fully funded rooftop solar arrays across eight Bannatyne sites, designed and installed by Shawton Energy as part of a coordinated multi-site rollout.
A tailored, multi-site solution
Through a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), Bannatyne purchases the clean electricity generated on site at a fixed, competitive rate below standard grid prices delivering immediate cost savings and long-term price certainty.
Each site was assessed through detailed, data-driven audits, with bespoke solar PV systems designed to reflect individual energy demands and site conditions. System sizes range from 50kWp to 250kWp, optimised for maximum self-consumption and resilience.
Efficient delivery at scale
The rollout was delivered across multiple sites with no disruption to day-to-day operations, with installations completed efficiently to meet project timelines.
Delivering measurable impact
The project now generates approximately 853,999 kWh annually, reducing carbon emissions by 237,992 kg of CO₂ per year.
The PPA model has also enabled Bannatyne to reduce energy costs by around 25%, while safeguarding against future energy price volatility.
Looking ahead
This project demonstrates how fully funded, on-site solar solutions can support businesses to decarbonise at scale, delivering cost savings, carbon reduction and long-term energy resilience without upfront capital investment.
“As a business, we're committed to reducing our carbon footprint and being at the forefront of environmental responsibility in our industry. Solar power generation is a win-win solution for us and aligns perfectly with our sustainability objectives while also providing certainty on the cost of our energy, which is one of our biggest costs.”
Chief Executive and Chairman of The Bannatyne Group
“As a health and wellness business, it's important that we consider not just the services we offer but how we operate sustainably. Solar energy helps us address energy costs while reducing our environmental impact. For us, the decision to start using solar was about securing long-term savings and supporting our commitment to a greener future for both our business and our members.”
